God of War: Ascension | Review (Only Single Player)

"When you have a series like God of War, one that built its name on massive scale, fluid pacing and an extremely refined combat system, its tough to figure out where exactly it can go from there, especially since it has already become a fully formed trilogy with all loose ends seemingly tied up. What exactly could another game in the franchise add or expand upon when it comes to the already solid framework? Well, how about the pale-skinned brutish antihero himself, Kratos? Thats what Santa Monica had in mind when crafting God of War: Ascension, a prequel that aims to explore the character of Kratos and delve into his psychology and motivations during the most important and tragic time of his origin. Did they pull it off and make a game that truly ascends, or are you better off stripping down to your boxers, painting yourself red and white, and running around town screaming to get your GoW fix? Were about to find out." (Michael Urban, OnlySP.com)

In March 2005 Santa Monica studios set out to tell the incredible tale of Kratos, a brutal and merciless Spartan warrior forged and shaped in bloodlust and ambition. It was Kratoss struggle with the Gods of Olympus and the demons of his past that paved the way for an incredibly engaging and exciting franchise. With every installment the formula has been meticulously innovated and improved, bringing it to the precipice of setting who many believe to be one of the highest benchmarks for quality in modern gaming. There are numerous words that come to gamers minds when they anticipate a new God of War title, brutality, scale, presentation and did I mention brutality?....

What Sony Santa Monica have created is another epic entry into the franchise that we have all come to expect from this legendary studio but, they have missed the mark big time when it comes to what could have made Ascension stand out from the pack: The Story. The graphics and scale of the game are incredible and the inclusion of multiplayer for the first time in the series was a good choice. It is unfortunate though that the whole idea of the game was practically non existent throughout my 8 or so hours of the campaign.

Santa Monica Studios Denies Involvement With The Last Guardian

Added: 17.03.2013 18:22 | 7 views | 0 comments

Hey, don't point at me! I didn't kill the guardian!

After reports that Santa Monica Studios has been contributing to The Last Guardian's development, Director of Technology Tim Moss has gone on record with Eurogamer to say otherwise. He said:
I'm never really sure how that got in the press, because as far as I'm aware we're not helping out with The Last Guardian. The only way you can say that is the knowledge that we contribute back to the central tech groups benefits The Last Guardian. So I'm guessing someone was slightly misquoted. The news that Santa Monica Studios was assisting with the project lended credence to The Last Guardian's on-track, albeit lengthy, development cycle. However, the game is still in development hell and nobody has been able to explain why.

God of War: Ascensions launch hasnt been the smoothest for a game in the acclaimed series. Sure, it received some encouraging reviews, but the controversy surrounding the Bros before Hos trophy caused them to change it to Bros before Foes. Then, after advancing in the game, many people complained of the extreme difficulty found within the Trial of Archimedes, leading Sony Santa Monica to start working on a patch. -PSLS
